[03] COMMON GROUND
From soil to governance.
Common Ground is an open-source cook-book — it equips communities with the tools and designs needed to develop and deliver transformational greenspace projects, from first spade to long-term governance.
[00] THE MODEL
A modular framework, built on evidence.
Built on the award-winning Imperial College Chaplaincy Garden, Common Ground guides communities through transforming under-managed greenspace in four stages. Each stage is modular, so the framework can be customised to fit any site.
-
[01]
Soil
Assess ground condition, light, water, and biology — the baseline every design decision is built on.
-
[02]
Structure
Raised beds, paths, sheds, greenhouses, and planting — a modular kit of parts, customised to the site.
-
[03]
Systems
Irrigation, water harvesting, and bespoke hardware and software installed to keep the garden running with minimal input.
-
[04]
Governance
Roles, rotas, and decision-making handed to the community — so the garden is run, not just maintained.
